Pacific Rim National Park Reserve's BioBlitz 2017
Come CELEBRATE with us! Join Parks Canada BioBlitz events from coast-to-coast-to-coast as we mark Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017. All Parks Canada BioBlitz events help protect Parks Canada's heritage places, through biodiversity discovery and experiences for Canadians to connect to these places.
Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is thrilled to be hosting a full-scale BioBlitz event in 2017, which will be based out of the Kwisitis Visitor Centre on beautiful Wickaninnish Beach. The goal will be to collect as many species observations as possible over a 24-hour period, so both terrestrial and marine environments will be surveyed to include a wide variety of habitats. We will be searching for everything from intertidal and marine life, to bugs and plants of the coastal temperate rainforest, to the unique species that live in bogs and sand dunes. We will be offering many fun and interactive programs, including drop-in educational booths, casual activities suitable for families, and day and night surveys led by plant and animal experts.
Best of all, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve's BioBlitz offers the chance to make lasting memories while contributing to species observations in one of the most beautiful places on earth!
The Family BioBlitz Festival is ideal for families with children of all ages, offering fun drop-in activities led by experts and interpreters. It will be located at the BioBlitz basecamp at the Kwisitis Visitor Centre on Wickaninnish beach.
BioBlitz basecamp hours:
12pm - 5pm on Saturday, May 20th
9am - 12pm on Sunday, May 21st
Adult participants (and families with children 12 or older) can also join formal species surveys, led by experienced scientists and naturalists. Please note that participant numbers are limited for all surveys - sign up at basecamp early to ensure a spot on your favourite surveys!
All activities are free but you must register with Eventbrite or call 250-726-3500.
This is a pet-free event.
