West Coast Vancouver Island Destination Prepares for Drier Summer Season

Tofino, BC, July 23, 2009 – The District of Tofino, the Tofino Business Association, the Tofino- Long Beach Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Tofino today announced a jointly-administered program designed to help Tofino’s residents and visitors become more involved with the management and conservation of Tofino’s water supply during the coming weeks of expected warm, dry weather and peak water usage.

Like many communities in British Columbia and throughout the Pacific Northwest, Tofino has adopted an area-wide, proactive water consumption awareness program that ensures residents and visitors alike are working together to conserve water during the drier summer months.

“In the coming days, the District of Tofino and its community and visitor service organizations will be working together in an unprecedented fashion to provide timely information about water availability, distribution and conservation methods,” said Tofino’s Mayor, John Fraser.  “Tofino’s water supply systems and procedures have been significantly improved in the last two years and, when combined with simple conservation measures, ensure that there is ample serviceable water despite the typical reduction in rainfall from May through September. Being thoughtful and responsible for how we each use water is just part of enjoying the warm, sunny days in Tofino.”

Under the new program beginning next week, water-related information including usage statistics, suggested conservation measures and more information will be made available on the District of Tofino’s website www.tofino.ca, at Tourism Tofino’s website www.tourismtofino.com and at the Tofino Visitor Information Centres.
