Whale Watching

To scan the waters for the steamy exhalation of a Humpback or Gray Whale’s breath, spot the black & white shadow of a transient Orca cut through still waters, hear the bark of sea lions resonate through the mist—these are ocean wilderness moments not to be missed when in Tofino.

Whale watching from Tofino is a longtime mainstay of wildlife adventure, and the opportunity to see these magnificent mammals in their natural marine habitat is truly thrilling, especially since our whale watching season runs long, from March through October. Patience and an eagle eye will always be rewarded when scouting for the wide variety of marine life that thrives in the waters of Clayoquot Sound.

Tours are available from the comfort of heated cabin cruisers and vessels, or zippy rigid hull zodiacs, giving everyone access to these creatures at a respectful distance. Dress warmly and appropriately for the weather (it’s always cooler on the water!), don’t forget the sunscreen, and bring along your cameras and binoculars to capture the moment.
